Theresa Layton
Executive Director
Theresa has a B.S. in Education from Kent State University where she majored in Early Chilodhood Education. She also has a Master of Education from Ashland University where she majored in Administration. Theresa has been an educator for over 25 years and has always worked in a program or school that suported Early Childhood Education. Her career passion has always been early childhood education, working with young children, their teachers and their families.
Sandy Brisson
Director of Finance and Administion
Sandy became the Director of Finance & Administration in January 2011. She has been an Office Manager for 45 years and is in charge of all office activities, including answering the phones, accounts payable and receivable and administrative payroll. When needed, she also fills in in the classrooms so teachers can take lunch breaks or work on their curriculum planning. A mother of six, and grandmother of six, she enjoys the split in responsibilities between rocking babies to sleep and handling the bookwork.
Christine Szczerbak Christine holds an Associate's degree in Child Development and Human Services from the Randolph Technical Career Center. Prior to joining the center, Christine spent several years working in childcare centers in every age group. Most recently, she worked as a program director for a center in Shelburne. She loves working with the kids and being part of their every day experience.
Brandy Raymond Brandy has been an Early Childhood teacher for over 12 years! She has a CDA in Infants/Toddlers. Brandy also has an Associate's degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management from Champlain College, but after her second child was born, she realized her passion was to teach children. Brandy loves to be a witness to many of the children's developmental milestones. Being an Early Childhood teacher is a very rewarding and amazing experience!
Annette Flynn Annette has been in Early Childhood for over 11 years! Annette was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ where after High School she worked for 15 years as a "chartist" for R.W. Mansfield Co. After her first child was born, she moved to Vermont where she provided private child care as well as elder care for her mother who had dementia. Annette has completed the 30 hour Child Development Course as well as many hours of Early Childhood workshops. Annette loves working with children and as she states, children soothe the soul.
Kelly Toher Kelly comes from Proctor, Vt., and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education from Cazenovia College in Cazenovia, NY. She has nannied for three boys ages 1,2, and 4 and worked on a farm where she boards her horse. Kelly's second grade teacher inspired her to teach! Riding horses since she was 5 years old, she owns and shows her horse, Euro.
Jo Evelti Jo's educational background includes a B.A. Degree in Human Services from Trinity College; she also holds a teaching license in Early Childhood Special Education, Birth through Age 6. Jo has worked in the Addison Supervisory District and Hinesburg Community School for 27 successful years as an Early Childhood Special Educator. After retiring from public schools, she worked as a substitute providing infant care and discovered a new passion in the world of early education. Jo lives in Burlington with her dog and cat. She loves to walk in the woods and along the lake near her home. Once a year she makes a trip to the ocean - the only thing Vermont is missing! .
Sarah Norton Sarah Norton holds a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Vermont and is currently pursuing her teacher's license through the Agency of Education in the State of Vermont. Sarah has been an Early Educator for over 12 years and has worked mainly as a Head Teacher and a Center Teacher/Center Float. Sarah loves every aspect of education from the direct care and education of the children to classroom management and curriculum planning. Sarah has two nieces, one nephew and recently became the Nursery and Preschool Coordinator of her church in Georgia, Vermont.
Holly Luscomb Holly Luscomb is a current graduate student in the Early Childhood Education program at Champlain College. She has worked with ages 0-13 years old over the past ten years in various roles, most recently as the Lead Teacher for a multi age (3-5yrs) preschool classroom. Holly lives in Essex Junction with her husband, Grant; wolfhound, Layla, and soon to be first child! Holly is very excited to join the Bluewater community and she looks forward to supporting the growth, independence and love of learning each child explores at school.
Kaylah Alexander Kaylah graduated from the Center for Technology, Essex, with a two year certificate for early childhood education. She has taken several Community College of Vermont courses, and plans to continue her education at Johnson State College to obtain her B.S. in Early Childhood Education. Kaylah has always had a passion for working with children, watching them grow and learn.
Jill Smith Jill is a recent graduate of Johnson State College where she earned a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. . She has worked in many schools in this area, including Green Mountain Montessori School, Reach for the Stars, and Bellwether School. Jill has also taught horse riding lessons and trained huskies to pull sleds. She loves loves working with children because they are so joyful and spontaneous, they make every day fun and different.
Stephanie Langlais Stephanie has a Bachelors Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education and has worked in a childcare setting for seven years. Her mother owns two childcare centers so Stephanie has always been exposed to children and truly feels called to be an educator. She spent her junior year of college studying abroad in Ireland where she worked as an intern at a Montessori School.
Ashley Wilson Ashley has her B.S in Psychology from Johnson State College. She is currently working towards become a licensed teacher. Ashley has been working with children of all ages for many years and it is a true passion of hers. Her experience varies from nanny, classroom assistant, UVM Children's Hospital volunteer to behavior interventionist at the elementary school level. As a native Vermonter, Ashley loves to be outside and be active!
Christian Bowdish Christian has taken college classes in Child Development, as well as two years in a Human Services program. She has worked in child care for over seven years and is now the assistant in our infant room. Christian lives in Salisbury with her husband and daughter and is expecting their second child. She enjoys watching and helping children grow and develop their own personalities.
Lesley Bessery Lesley has a BA in Elementary Education and Behavioral Science, and is currently a co-teacher in our Early Infant classroom. Lesley has taught in Early Childhood Education programs in Hawaii as well as Vermont and has always enjoyed reading, planning activities, and being creative with children. She lives in Burlington with her four children.
Grace Baker Grace attended a local high school, and is currently working towards her CDA. She has spent over eleven years babysitting and has been in the childcare profession for over two years. Grace enjoys working with the children, watching them grow and develop. She lives in Burlington with her family, including three dogs, four cats, and a mouse!
Dana Figueroa Dana graduated from Champlain College with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and works with our Toddler classroom. She has also worked at other area day cares, as well as working as a Teacher's Assistant in the Aisling Project, a community based after school program in Dublin, Ireland. Dana loves working with children and the special light they bring into our lives every day. Dana lives in Stowe.
Jessica Schecter-Kane Jessica is from Cleveland, OH, and has lived in Vermont since 2012. She has her Associate's Degree from Cuyahoga Community College, her Bachelor's Degree from Kent State University, and her Masters of Education from Cleveland State University. Jessica has worked for various community mental health agencies since moving to Vermont, most recently as a teaching interventionist with middle school students. She find working with children to be fun, engaging and very enlightening and is happy to be joining the staff of Bluewater Early Childhood Program.
